Jack Culbreath was a naturalist at Yosemite National Park when he was recruited to serve in World War II with a special U.S. Army unit of mountaineers, rock climbers, and skiers. The 10th Mountain Division would clear the way in steep, mountainous terrain for Allied victory in Italy.
